Who wrote this: Offsiteio, one of the two options compared here. We've described Engine using only Engine's own web pages, linked in the Sources section and reviewed in October 2026. If Engine has updated something, tell us and we'll revise.
In one line: Engine is a free booking platform that gets your group a hotel room block at a group rate; Offsiteio plans and runs the entire offsite, hotel included, for one itemized per-person price. They solve different-sized problems. If the hotel is the only hard part of your trip, Engine may be all you need. If the hotel is one of twenty moving parts, keep reading.
Engine vs Offsiteio side by side
What Engine does for an offsite
Engine's offsites and retreats page describes a dedicated trip manager who secures group rates and terms from hotels, which you then compare side by side on Engine's free platform. Once you choose, Engine books the rooms, manages the reservation and reconciles charges after check-out. It can look for hotels with meeting space if you ask (engine.com/groups/offsites-and-retreats, checked Oct 2026).
On its main groups page, Engine says most groups hear back from hotels the same day and that groups can save up to 22% compared to public rates (engine.com/groups, checked Oct 2026). Its homepage leads with "No fees, no contracts" and 24/7 U.S.-based support.
That's genuinely useful. Group hotel contracts are where many DIY planners get stuck, and a free service that collects quotes and handles the block takes real work off your desk. What Engine's pages don't describe is planning the program: meals, a dinner venue, activities, airport transfers, the agenda, or anyone on the ground during the trip.
What Offsiteio does instead
We treat the hotel as one line in a bigger plan. Give us headcount, dates and the purpose of the offsite, and within 48 hours we'll send a free proposal with two or three destinations to choose from. Each comes with a single price per person, itemized across lodging, meeting rooms, meals, activities, transfers and coordination. No commitment is required to see it.
Once you pick, we negotiate and contract the venues, plan the meals and activities, schedule transfers, and build the day-by-day plan with you. Someone from our team is on site for the whole trip. Real trips have come in around $1,450 to $2,402 per person, with flights quoted separately. We're rated 5.0 on Google (17 reviews).
Which should you use?
Use Engine if…
- You've already picked the city and the agenda is simple
- Your main goal is a better rate on a block of 10+ rooms
- You (or an ops teammate) are happy to book restaurants, activities and transport
- You want hotels, air and rental cars in one free booking tool
Use Offsiteio if…
- You haven't chosen a destination and want informed options
- Meals, activities and transfers matter as much as the rooms
- You want to attend the offsite rather than run it
- Finance needs one per-person number with every component visible
A practical test: list everything that has to happen for the offsite to work. If the list is "rooms," Engine fits. If it runs to a page, you probably want a planner. Our guide to negotiating group hotel rates covers the hotel part if you're doing it yourself.

Engine vs Offsiteio: common questions
Is Engine really free for group bookings?
Engine's groups page says it is "completely free for group coordinators" with no membership fees (checked Oct 2026). You pay the hotel's group rate for the rooms.
Does Engine plan activities or meals for an offsite?
We didn't find activity, catering or on-site planning described on Engine's offsite pages (checked Oct 2026). Its focus is hotels, plus flights and cars on the platform.
What's the minimum group size on Engine?
Engine says group bookings generally start at 10 or more rooms (checked Oct 2026).
Can I use Engine for rooms and Offsiteio for everything else?
Rooms, meeting space and food and beverage minimums tend to be negotiated together, so it's simplest when one party handles them. If you already hold a block, mention it in your brief.
Why is Offsiteio's price per person instead of free?
Because it covers the whole trip, not just booking: the hotel, meals, activities, transfers, planning and on-site staff, itemized so you can see each part.
