Leadership retreats and leadership team offsites

Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and a planner on site. Free proposal in 48 hours.

As a company grows past a hundred people, the CEO can no longer carry the strategy into every team. The people who do are the managers, directors and team leads in the middle. A leadership retreat gets them in one place, makes sure they leave with the same story, and gives them relationships across departments that make the next year easier. We plan those retreats end to end.

Leadership retreat vs executive retreat

The two get confused, but they solve different problems.

What a strong leadership offsite achieves

  • A shared narrative. Every leader can explain the company's priorities in their own words, and the stories match.
  • Cross-functional relationships. The engineering manager knows the sales director well enough to call before a problem escalates.
  • Management skills. Workshops on feedback, hiring or planning, taught by your own people or an outside facilitator.
  • Recognition. Middle managers rarely get thanked in public. A well-run leadership retreat does it.

Sample leadership retreat agenda (3 days)

Day 1: Arrival and context

  • Afternoon arrivals, then an opening session where the CEO frames the year
  • Mixed-table welcome dinner: seat people beside colleagues they rarely work with

Day 2: Strategy into plans

  • Plenary on company priorities, followed by functional breakouts that turn them into team goals
  • Lunch, then cross-functional working groups on shared problems
  • A team experience that rewards collaboration, such as a cooking class, a regatta or a scavenger hunt
  • Group dinner with short recognition moments

Day 3: Skills and commitments

  • Management workshop led by an internal leader or facilitator
  • Closing round: each leader commits to one change for their team
  • Departures after lunch

Best destinations for a leadership retreat

Groups of 15 to 60 need a hotel that can take everyone, a plenary room and real breakout space. That favors cities with strong group hotels and short flights:

  • Nashville: big downtown hotels, an easy flight for much of the country, from $1,200 per person
  • Austin: a tech-friendly city with walkable evenings, from $1,450 per person
  • Miami: beachfront hotels with meeting rooms on site, from $1,549 per person
  • Mexico City: international without jet lag, from $1,400 per person
  • Barcelona: for companies with leaders on both sides of the Atlantic, from $1,650 per person

Every price is a destination starting price, and flights are quoted separately.

How Offsiteio plans leadership retreats

  1. Brief: you tell us headcount, dates, goals and any facilitator plans.
  2. Proposal in 48 hours: a recommended destination and hotel, a draft agenda and one per-person price with every line itemized. It's free.
  3. Booking: we contract the hotel, meeting rooms, restaurants and activities, and manage the rooming list.
  4. On site: our planner runs the logistics so your People team can take part.

Our programs scale with your group. For one software company, we brought 65 people to Miami with all meals, a private meeting room, a yacht dinner cruise, axe throwing and 24/7 support on the ground.

Three mistakes that weaken a leadership offsite

  • Too much stage time. If leaders spend two days listening to slides, they leave informed but not aligned. Give at least half the agenda to discussion and breakouts.
  • Seating by department. People default to their own teams. Assign mixed tables at meals and mixed groups in workshops.
  • No follow-through. End with written commitments and a date to review them. Otherwise the energy fades within a few weeks.

Who plans the leadership offsite

Usually the Head of People or the Chief of Staff, often while also building the content. That's two jobs. We take the logistics so the content gets your full attention.

Leadership retreat FAQs

What is a leadership retreat?

A leadership retreat is an offsite for a company's managers and directors, usually with the executive team. It aligns them on strategy, builds cross-team relationships and develops management skills.

How many people attend a leadership offsite?

Leadership retreats typically include 15 to 60 people. Smaller groups of only senior executives are usually better treated as an executive retreat.

What activities work for a leadership retreat?

Activities that need collaboration across functions work best, such as cooking classes, sailing, scavenger hunts or a group service project. Pair them with recognition moments at dinner.

How much does a leadership retreat cost?

Our destination packages start from $1,100 per person, and full multi-day programs we've planned have run $1,450 to $2,402 per person. Flights are quoted separately.

Can you include workshops and a facilitator?

Yes. We set up plenary and breakout rooms, AV and materials, and coordinate timings with your facilitator or internal speakers.
