Sales kickoff agenda template (SKO agenda for 1, 2 or 3 days)

SKO agendas that balance strategy, skills and celebration: a 1-day and a 2-day version with session goals and owners, plus the planning checklist revenue ops needs.

A sales kickoff (SKO) agenda sets the year for the revenue team: where the company is going, what is changing in the plan, the skills reps need to hit their number and a moment to celebrate last year. Strong SKO agendas keep keynotes short, put most of the time into practice and role plays, and finish with clear next steps per team. Below are free 1-day and 2-day sales kickoff agenda templates and a pre-SKO checklist.

How to use this SKO agenda template

  1. Decide the three messages every rep should be able to repeat at the end. Every session should serve at least one of them.
  2. Choose the 1-day version for a regional or budget SKO and the 2-day version when the team travels.
  3. Cap keynotes at 30 minutes and move updates into short pre-recorded videos where possible.
  4. Give enablement the largest blocks. Practice changes behavior; slides don't.
  5. Put the awards dinner on the first night so the energy carries into day 2.
  6. Close with written commitments per team and follow up with a post-event survey.

Example: a 2-day SKO for 60 people in Miami

An illustrative kickoff for a 60-person revenue team at one resort hotel in Miami in January, when the weather does part of the selling.

Day 1, 16:00Customer panelTwo customers by video, one in person; moderated by the head of CS

Day 2, morningRole playsGroups of four rotate through three scenarios with peer scoring

Common SKO agenda mistakes

  • Too many keynotes. Every executive wants a slot; the audience wants practice and time with peers.
  • Training without practice. A talk about objection handling doesn't change how reps handle objections.
  • Timing it on month-end or quarter-end. Reps will be on their phones closing deals.
  • No follow-up. Without team commitments and a check-in, the energy fades in a few weeks.
  • Logistics owned by revenue ops alongside their day job. Planning travel and venues for a large team is a job in itself.

FAQ

What is a sales kickoff agenda?

It is the schedule for a sales kickoff (SKO), the event at the start of a fiscal year or half where the revenue team aligns on strategy and targets, learns what is new, practices skills and celebrates results.

What should be included in an SKO agenda?

A short opening keynote, product and pricing updates, a customer story, skills practice in small groups, team breakouts for territory and account plans, an awards moment and a close with clear commitments.

How long should a sales kickoff be?

One day works for regional teams or tight budgets. Two days is common when the team travels, with an awards dinner on the first night. Three days suits large global teams with many tracks.

When should a sales kickoff happen?

In the first weeks of the new fiscal year or half, avoiding month-end and quarter-end. Book the venue several months ahead, because January dates fill quickly.

How do you make an SKO engaging?

Keep keynotes short, use real customers, give most of the time to role plays and peer practice, mix teams in activities and celebrate wins with specific stories rather than long award lists.
