Team Name Generator

Stuck on what to call your crew? This free team name generator serves up 10 workplace-friendly ideas per click, sorted by theme, and can weave in your company name, city or project for something nobody else has.

How to use the team name generator

1. Pick a theme. Start with Mix of everything to browse, or narrow it down to sales, engineering, marketing, HR, finance, adventure, funny or puns. Changing the theme refreshes the list right away.
2. Add a word (optional). Type your company name, office city, product or project code name. Every suggestion will include it, which makes names feel custom and helps teams stand out on a leaderboard.
3. Generate until something clicks. Each click shows 10 new names and avoids repeating the last batch, so you can keep going through the full list.
4. Copy or save. Click any name to copy it. Tap the star to save it to your favorites, which stay in your browser so you can come back and pick later. Use Copy all to paste your shortlist into Slack for a vote.

What makes a good work team name

• Easy to say out loud. If a host has to announce it during trivia or a scavenger hunt, short and punchy wins. Two or three words is the sweet spot.
• Inclusive and work-appropriate. Skip inside jokes that only half the team gets, and anything that pokes fun at a person, role or group. The list in this tool is written to be safe for an all-hands slide.
• Connected to the team or the moment. A nod to what the team does ("Pipeline Pirates" for sales, "Merge Conflicts" for engineering) or where you are ("Denver Summit Seekers") makes a name stick.
• Not borrowed from a brand. Names based on famous movies, sports teams or products can feel dated and sometimes cause trouble if they end up on shirts or swag. Original names age better.
• Chosen by the team. Generate a shortlist, then let each team vote. People get more into a name they picked themselves.

When you'll need team names

Offsites and company retreats

Most offsites include at least one team activity, and a name instantly turns a random group into a squad. Split everyone with our random team generator first, then let each group pick a name from here. For full itineraries and activity formats, browse our team retreat ideas.

Team building activities and competitions

Trivia nights, cook-offs, scavenger hunts and sports days all run on team names. They make the scoreboard more fun to read and give people something to cheer for. Our team building hub has activity ideas for groups of every size.

New teams, pods and projects

Launching a new squad, hackathon team or cross-functional working group? A name helps people talk about the group and gives it an identity in Slack channels and planning docs.

Icebreakers

Asking a new team to agree on a name in five minutes is a quick icebreaker in itself. Pair it with a few icebreaker questions for work to get conversation going.

FAQs

Is the team name generator free?

Yes. There's no signup and no limit. Generate as many batches as you like and copy any name you want to use.

Can I add my company name to the team names?

Yes. Type any word, such as your company, city or project name, into the Include a word field, and every suggestion in the batch will feature it, like "Acme Summit Seekers" or "Team Austin."

Are these team names appropriate for work?

Every name was written by hand for workplace use. They're playful without being crude, and none of them make fun of a person or group, so they're safe for an all-hands slide or a company shirt.

Where are my favorite names saved?

Favorites are stored in your own browser, so they'll still be there if you come back on the same device. Nothing is sent to Offsiteio. Use Copy all to move your shortlist somewhere permanent.

How do we pick the final name?

Star five or six options, click Copy all, and post them in your team channel with emoji voting. Give it a short deadline, like the end of lunch, so the decision doesn't drag on.
