Company retreats near Houston
Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and a planner on site. Free proposal in 48 hours.
Houston is wide, flat and hot for a large part of the year, and its teams know the Katy Freeway and the 610 Loop far better than they'd like. If you're the Chief of Staff, EA or People lead organizing a company retreat near Houston, the real constraints are humidity, hurricane season and getting a group out of the city before the afternoon jam. Luckily the Gulf, the pine forests to the north and the rolling farm country to the west are all reachable within a couple of hours.
Here are drive-to team offsite ideas near Houston, the nonstop flights from Bush Intercontinental and Hobby that open up more choices, and a simple way to weigh them.
Drive-to options (under ~3 hours)
Treat every drive time below as approximate. They're measured from downtown Houston on a weekday after the morning rush; heading west on I-10 or north on I-45 on a Friday can easily add about 45 minutes.
Galveston Island
Drive: about 1 hour south on I-45. Good for: beach celebrations, all-hands with a social program and a relaxed close to the year. Best season: March to May and October to early November; hurricane season runs June through November, so build a flexible cancellation clause into any late-summer booking. Venue type: beachfront resort hotels on the Seawall, historic downtown hotels and large rental homes on the West End.
The Woodlands and Lake Conroe
Drive: around 40 minutes to The Woodlands and roughly 1 hour to Lake Conroe. Good for: a working offsite with real conference infrastructure, or a lake day folded into a planning week. Best season: spring and fall for golf and patios; summer is lake season if sessions stay indoors at midday. Venue type: conference resorts in wooded settings and lakefront resorts with marinas and meeting rooms.
Round Top and Brenham
Drive: approximately 1.25 hours to Brenham and about 1.5 hours to Round Top. Good for: leadership retreats and creative workshops in a quiet, rural setting. Best season: spring bluebonnet season and fall, but avoid the big antiques show weeks, when rooms in Round Top are gone months ahead. Venue type: farmhouse estates, restored historic inns and ranch properties that a group can book in full.
Bastrop and the Lost Pines
Drive: about 2 hours west via Highway 71. Good for: mid-size and large groups that want a resort with everything on site and a sense of being out of town. Best season: October through April, when the pine forest and Colorado River trails are comfortable. Venue type: full-service resorts with ballrooms, riverfront cabins and ranch lodging.
Austin
Drive: roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. Good for: an offsite with nightlife and a strong food and music scene, especially for teams that rarely leave Houston. Best season: spring and late fall, away from SXSW and festival weekends. Venue type: downtown hotels with meeting rooms and Hill Country resorts on the city's edge. Our Austin offsite page has a sample itinerary.
The Hill Country towns of Fredericksburg and Wimberley are a stretch from Houston at about 3.5 to 4 hours, and San Antonio is around 3 hours in clear traffic. They fit a three-night retreat better than a two-night one.
Short-flight options
IAH is a major international hub, and Hobby adds a lot of Southwest service, so a fly-in retreat from Houston is easy to route. Flight times are approximate nonstop figures.
- Mexico City: about 2 hours. A big cultural change of scene with a short hop.
- Riviera Maya: around 2 hours to Cancun. Beaches and resorts sized for groups.
- Nashville: roughly 2 hours. Music, food and a lively downtown.
- Miami: about 2.5 hours. Art, beaches and lots of meeting hotels.
- Los Cabos: approximately 2.5 hours. A high-impact incentive or milestone trip.
- Panama City: about 4 hours. The longest hop here, but a single flight to a modern city on the canal.

Costs for a Houston-area retreat
Offsiteio trips typically start around $1,450 per person, flights quoted separately; drive-to retreats avoid airfare entirely. Galveston rates jump on summer weekends and spring break, while Round Top spikes during show weeks. Midweek dates in shoulder months tend to give the best value. Narrowing it down
Start with the season, because in Houston it rules out more than anything else. From June to September, choose somewhere with strong indoor space or fly somewhere cooler. Then think about purpose: Round Top and the Lost Pines give a leadership group room to think, while Galveston and Austin are better for a team that needs a shared good time. Our roundup of top offsite locations covers national alternatives, and the offsite planning guide handles agenda, budget and timing.
Offsite locations near Houston: FAQs
What is the closest beach for a team offsite near Houston?
Galveston, at about an hour by car. Groups can take over a beachfront hotel or rent several houses on the West End for a more casual format.
Should we worry about hurricanes when booking a Gulf Coast retreat?
Plan for it. From June through November, ask for a weather clause in contracts and keep an inland backup like The Woodlands in mind.
Is Austin too far for a two-night company retreat from Houston?
It works if you leave mid-morning and keep the first afternoon light. At up to 3 hours each way, a short flight from Hobby is worth comparing for big groups.
Where can a Houston leadership team find real quiet?
Round Top and the surrounding Washington County farm country. Outside show weeks, the area is calm, and many properties can be booked for just your group.
How far ahead should we book?
About three months is enough for most teams under 40. For spring dates, Galveston peak weekends or groups over 75, allow five to six months.
