Corporate retreats near Los Angeles

Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and a planner on site. Free proposal in 48 hours.

Planning a corporate retreat near Los Angeles starts with a map problem. Your team might live in Santa Monica, Silver Lake, Pasadena and Long Beach, and an office in Culver City or downtown doesn't make that sprawl any smaller. Getting thirty people out of the basin on the same morning takes more thought than picking the venue.

This page is for the Chief of Staff, EA or People lead who has to make that work. It covers company retreat spots you can reach by car or charter coach, the flights out of LAX and Burbank that are worth the airport time, and how to match each one to what the offsite is meant to achieve. The upside of the geography is real: ocean, desert, vineyard valleys and pine forest are all within a morning's drive.

Drive-to options (under ~3 hours)

All drive times here are approximate and assume you leave downtown LA mid-morning on a weekday. The 101, the 10 and the 5 behave very differently at 4 p.m. on a Thursday, so the departure hour can matter as much as the distance. For a group, one coach from a central meeting point usually beats a convoy of rideshares.

Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains

Drive: about 45 minutes to 1 hour up Pacific Coast Highway. Good for: a one-night leadership reset or a working day that ends with a sunset dinner. Best season: late summer into October, when the coastal marine layer burns off earlier; this is also fire season, so keep a backup date in mind. Venue type: canyon retreat centers, beach hotels and private estates rented for the day. People who can't stay overnight can still get home.

Ojai

Drive: roughly 1.5 to 2 hours through Ventura. Good for: quiet strategy work, founder offsites and leadership teams that need fewer distractions, not more. Best season: spring, when the valley is green and the orange groves bloom, and the cool months of November and December. Midsummer runs hot. Venue type: spa resorts, garden inns and ranch properties that can host a buyout. Evenings are calm, which is the point.

Santa Barbara and Montecito

Drive: about 1.5 to 2 hours, and the Pacific Surfliner train from Union Station is a relaxed alternative. Good for: executive retreats and board-style sessions that want polish close to home. Best season: September and October bring the clearest weather; May and June can be grey in the mornings. Venue type: oceanfront resorts and Spanish-style hotels, with Santa Ynez Valley wine country inland. Our Santa Barbara offsite page has a sample itinerary.

Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley

Drive: around 2 to 2.5 hours east on the 10. Good for: all-hands celebrations, sales kickoffs and pool-day team bonding. Best season: late October through April. Avoid the two Coachella festival weekends in April and plan carefully around summer, when afternoons pass 105 degrees. Venue type: mid-century boutique hotels for groups that want style, and large desert resorts with ballrooms for bigger teams.

Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear

Drive: approximately 1.75 to 2.5 hours up into the San Bernardino Mountains. Good for: team building with hiking, lake time and a fire pit at night. Best season: summer and early fall for the lake; winter for snow, though chains may be required and roads slow down. Venue type: mountain lodges, cabins and lake houses that groups can take over.

A stretch worth knowing: Paso Robles wine country sits about 3.5 hours north. It suits a three-night trip, not a quick two-day offsite.

Short-flight options

Sometimes a team wants to land somewhere that feels like a real trip, or half the attendees are flying in anyway. These run from LAX, Burbank or Long Beach. Flight times are approximate nonstop times and shift by airline and season.

  • Las Vegas: about 1 hour 10 minutes. Hard to beat for a big sales kickoff.
  • Santa Cruz: around 1 hour 15 minutes to San Jose, then a short drive over the hill. Redwoods and surf for a cooler change of air.
  • Los Cabos: roughly 2.5 hours. An incentive or year-end celebration with many daily nonstops.
  • Austin: about 3 hours. Live music and barbecue for teams split between the coasts.
  • Mexico City: approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. Food, art and a lot of culture for one passport stamp.
  • Hawaii: around 5.5 to 6 hours. A milestone trip with no connection needed.

Budgeting a retreat outside LA

Offsiteio trips typically start around $1,450 per person, flights quoted separately; drive-to retreats avoid airfare entirely. Near Los Angeles, the biggest swings come from the calendar: desert rates climb in high season and coastal towns charge more on summer weekends. A Monday-to-Wednesday booking often unlocks better rooms. Our corporate retreat cost breakdown lists the line items to plan for.

Picking the right spot for your team

Think about energy before scenery. A team that needs to make hard calls does well in Ojai or Malibu, where there is little to do but talk. A team that just hit a big number deserves the pool and the noise of Palm Springs. Next, look at where people actually sleep. A Westside-heavy team gets to Santa Barbara faster than a team based in the San Gabriel Valley, which may prefer Arrowhead. To see how these compare with offsites elsewhere in the country, read our guide to the best offsite locations, then use how to plan a company offsite for timeline, owners and agenda.

Los Angeles team offsite FAQs

Where should an LA company hold a two-day offsite?

Ojai and Santa Barbara are the most common answers for leadership groups, and Palm Springs for larger teams that want a celebration. All three sit within about two hours of downtown in normal traffic.

How do we avoid losing half a day to LA traffic?

Leave between 9:30 and 11 a.m., skip Friday afternoon departures and run one coach from a central pickup. Coming home midday on the last day also beats the evening rush back into the city.

Is Palm Springs too hot for a company retreat?

From June through September it can be, with afternoons well over 100 degrees. Book between late October and April, or plan summer sessions indoors and keep outdoor time to early mornings.

Do we need a mountain venue with snow access in winter?

Only if snow is part of the plan. Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead roads can require chains after storms, so a coach with an experienced driver and flexible arrival time matters more than the venue itself.

How early should we book offsite locations near Los Angeles?

For under 40 people, about three months ahead is comfortable. For larger groups, or for Palm Springs in spring and Santa Barbara in early fall, start four to six months out.
