Corporate retreat in Finnish Lapland: venues, activities and a 3-day plan

Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and 24/7 remote support. Free proposal in days.

Finnish Lapland is the Arctic offsite: snow forests, husky trails, glass-roofed cabins and, on clear nights, the northern lights. It suits incentive trips, leadership retreats and year-end team celebrations where the shared experience matters as much as the agenda.

It is easier to run than it sounds. Airports at Rovaniemi, Kittilä and Ivalo sit close to the main resort areas, the hotels are used to groups, and local safari companies handle the gear and guiding.

Why Finnish Lapland works for a team offsite

  • Getting there. Most groups fly via Helsinki, a flight of a little over an hour north. Rovaniemi Airport is roughly 10 minutes from town; Kittilä serves Levi, about 20 minutes away; Ivalo serves Saariselkä and Inari. Some seasonal flights link these airports directly with other European cities.
  • Three main bases. Rovaniemi has the most hotels and city services, Levi is a ski resort with a walkable village, and Saariselkä and Inari feel more remote and wild.
  • Activities run like clockwork. Husky, reindeer and snowmobile safaris come with thermal suits, boots and guides, so first-timers are well looked after.
  • Meeting rooms exist. Several hotels and resorts have conference rooms, so a morning session before an afternoon safari is realistic.
  • Caveat: cold, dark and peak pricing. Winter temperatures can fall well below freezing, the sun barely rises in December and early January, and December is the busiest and most expensive month around Rovaniemi.

Best time for a corporate retreat in Finnish Lapland

For snow activities and the northern lights, plan between late November and March; February and March bring more daylight, deep snow and often the most comfortable conditions. The aurora season runs roughly from late August to early April, so autumn trips can combine lights with hiking and colorful tundra. December is festive but crowded and pricey. Summer offers the midnight sun, hiking, rafting and fishing, with mosquitoes in midsummer as the main drawback. The spring thaw in May and the dark, slushy weeks of early November are the least appealing times.

Budget and planning notes

Lapland is expensive in peak winter. December rates around Rovaniemi are the highest of the year, and glass igloo and treehouse rooms sell out early. Safaris are priced per person and add up quickly for a group, and domestic flights fill in the busiest weeks. January to March after the holidays, and the autumn aurora season, often offer better value. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Send your dates and headcount and we will return a free itemized proposal in days, with one upfront price per person, 24/7 remote support on the trip and an optional on-site coordinator. When can we see the northern lights in Lapland?

Roughly from late August to early April, on clear, dark nights. Sightings are never certain, so plan two or three nights to improve your chances.

Rovaniemi, Levi or Saariselkä for a team trip?

Rovaniemi has the most hotels and easiest access, Levi is best for skiing, and Saariselkä suits a more remote northern lights trip.

How cold does it get, and what should the team pack?

Midwinter temperatures can fall far below freezing. Safari operators lend thermal suits and boots, but people should bring warm base layers, hats and gloves.

Is Lapland good in summer?

Yes, for a different kind of trip, with the midnight sun, hiking and river activities. Expect mosquitoes in midsummer and no snow programs.
