Corporate retreat in Sequoia and Kings Canyon: venues, activities and a 3-day plan
Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and 24/7 remote support. Free proposal in days.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon are two national parks run as one, on the southern Sierra Nevada east of Fresno and Visalia. They suit a small leadership team, a founders' retreat or a project group of up to a few dozen people who want a setting that makes everyday work feel small for a few days. Standing next to the largest trees on Earth tends to do that.
The honest pitch: lodging inside the parks is limited and simple, connectivity is patchy, and roads are long and winding. In return you get giant sequoia groves, deep granite canyons and very few distractions. Plan it as a reset rather than a heavy working offsite, and keep the agenda short.
Why Sequoia and Kings Canyon work for a team offsite
- Getting there. Fresno Yosemite International is the main airport, with nonstop service from several western hubs and connections from the rest of the country. Grant Grove is roughly 1.5 hours from Fresno; Wuksachi Lodge is about 2 hours. Teams driving from Los Angeles should allow roughly 4 hours to the southern entrance near Three Rivers.
- Two in-park lodges plus gateway towns. Wuksachi Lodge in Sequoia and John Muir Lodge in Kings Canyon both sit inside the parks and are handled by the same concessioner, which offers meeting and event spaces. Three Rivers and Visalia add more beds and conventional meeting rooms.
- Work time is limited by design. Expect weak or no cell service in much of the parks and modest lodge Wi-Fi. Download documents in advance and treat the lodge meeting room as a place for discussion, not video calls.
- Evenings are quiet. Dinner is at the lodge restaurant or a private room, followed by stargazing; there is no town nightlife inside the parks.
- Roads and elevation are the caveats. Wuksachi sits above 7,000 feet, and the Generals Highway climbs steeply from Three Rivers with tight curves. Long vehicles face restrictions on parts of the route, so confirm coach size with the park before you book.
Best time for a corporate retreat in Sequoia and Kings Canyon
Late May through mid-October is the practical window. June and September are the sweet spots: lodges and most roads are open, but crowds are lighter than in July and August. The Kings Canyon Scenic Byway to Cedar Grove usually opens in late spring and closes in fall, and Cedar Grove Lodge runs only in that season. Late summer can bring wildfire smoke, so have an indoor fallback. Winter is beautiful but hard for groups, with snow, chain requirements on park roads and reduced services.
Corporate retreat venues in Sequoia and Kings Canyon
Wuksachi Lodge
The main lodge in Sequoia National Park, a short drive from the Giant Forest and Lodgepole, with a restaurant and the park concessioner's meeting and event spaces. It is the best base for a group that wants to walk among the big trees at dawn before day visitors arrive.
John Muir Lodge
A wood-and-stone lodge at Grant Grove in Kings Canyon National Park, near the General Grant Tree, with a lobby fireplace and access to the Grant Grove restaurant. It suits a smaller leadership group and is the easier in-park option from Fresno.
Gateway Restaurant & Lodge (Three Rivers)
A riverside restaurant and lodge on the Kaweah River just outside the park's southern entrance, with event, banquet and reception services. It is a good spot for a welcome dinner or a final-night celebration, and for teams that prefer lower elevation and quicker access to Visalia.
Visalia Marriott at the Convention Center (nearby)
A full-service hotel in downtown Visalia, about an hour from the park entrance, next to the city's convention center. It works as the conference base for a larger team, with day trips into Sequoia by coach and a proper ballroom for sessions.
| Venue | Area | Style | Good fit for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wuksachi Lodge | Sequoia, near Lodgepole | In-park mountain lodge | Small groups immersed in the groves |
| John Muir Lodge | Grant Grove, Kings Canyon | In-park lodge | Leadership groups flying into Fresno |
| Gateway Restaurant & Lodge | Three Rivers | Riverside lodge and restaurant | Welcome and closing dinners |
| Visalia Marriott | Visalia, about 1 hour away | Convention hotel | Larger teams doing day trips |
In-park rooms go fast for summer. Request a free itemized proposal early and we will check lodge availability against a Three Rivers or Visalia backup.

- A guided tour of Crystal Cave, a marble cavern open seasonally with advance tickets.
- The easy Tokopah Falls trail from Lodgepole, following the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River.
- A drive down the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway to Cedar Grove and a flat walk around Zumwalt Meadow beneath the canyon walls.

Budget and planning notes
In-park lodging is limited, so availability rather than price is usually the constraint, and summer weekends book months ahead. Transfers add up because of the distances: plan for vans or a small coach and confirm vehicle-length limits on park roads. Spring and fall bring lower rates and smaller crowds, and a Visalia base is cheaper for a larger group, with more travel time each day. Remember the park entrance fee for every vehicle. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Sequoia and Kings Canyon corporate retreat FAQs
Should we stay inside the park or in Three Rivers?
Stay inside the park at Wuksachi or John Muir Lodge if the group is small and wants to be among the trees. Three Rivers and Visalia make more sense for larger teams or anyone uneasy with mountain roads and altitude.
Which airport is closest to Sequoia National Park?
Fresno Yosemite International is the usual choice, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours from the in-park lodges. Los Angeles works for teams willing to drive about 4 hours.
How many days do we need?
Two nights is the minimum, given the drive in and out. Three nights lets you visit both parks and still hold two proper working sessions.
Can we hold meetings inside the national parks?
Yes. The park lodging concessioner offers meeting and event spaces, but connectivity is limited, so plan screen-free sessions and confirm any AV needs in advance.
