Positano is the steepest and most photographed town on the Amalfi Coast, a stack of pastel houses dropping down to a small beach. As a retreat destination it suits small leadership teams, founder offsites and incentive winners, roughly 8 to 40 people, who want a short, high-reward trip where the view does much of the work.

Our Amalfi Coast guide compares the coast's towns for larger programs. This page is for teams that have already picked Positano and want to know how to make it work for a group.

Why Positano works for a team offsite

  • Getting there. Naples International is roughly an hour and a half by road on a good day, longer in summer traffic. In season, ferries and private boats from Naples, Sorrento and Salerno arrive straight at the beach, which is often the nicer way in.
  • Venues with views. Positano's hotels are small, cliff-hung properties with terraces built for dinners and private events, which suits intimate groups more than conferences.
  • The sea as your venue. A private boat to Capri or along the coast turns an afternoon into the trip's highlight without any extra transfers.
  • Evenings on foot. Restaurants and bars line the lanes between the main beach and the upper town, though "on foot" here means plenty of steps.
  • The caveats. Hotels are small, roads are narrow and parking is scarce, and the town is crowded and costly in July and August. Teams above about 40 should consider Sorrento as the base.

Best time for a corporate retreat in Positano

May, June and September are the best months, with warm water, open beach clubs and evenings mild enough for terrace dinners. Late April and October are quieter and cheaper but some ferries run less often. July and August are hot and very busy, with heavy traffic on the coast road. From roughly November to March many hotels and restaurants close entirely, so Positano is a seasonal destination.

Corporate retreat venues in Positano

Hotel Villa Franca

A five-star hotel high on the hillside with a rooftop restaurant and bar, a spa and a program of happenings and events. It suits executive teams that want sweeping views and a self-contained base above the crowds.

Covo dei Saraceni

A hotel right on the harbor next to the main beach, with terraces and an event room it uses for private events and receptions. It is the easiest location for boat days and evenings in town.

Villa Treville

A collection of villas on a private headland just outside the center, once the summer home of director Franco Zeffirelli, with spaces it offers for private events and celebrations. It is a strong choice for a small leadership buyout that values privacy.

Hotel Poseidon

A family-run hotel with garden terraces on the slope above the beach, with a dedicated weddings and events page. It suits mid-size groups that want a classic Positano hotel feel at a more moderate level.

Casa Angelina (nearby)

A white, modern boutique hotel in Praiano, about ten minutes along the coast, with a rooftop terrace for private dining and intimate celebrations. It works for teams that want a calmer base with views back toward Positano.

Budget and planning notes

Positano is expensive, especially from June to August, when rooms, restaurants and private boats all reach their peak. Many hotels set minimum stays in summer, and an event usually means taking over a terrace or the whole property. Porterage, boat transfers and private drivers are real line items because cars cannot reach most doors. Shoulder-season weekdays are the best value. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Positano corporate retreat FAQs

How many people can a Positano retreat handle?

Positano works best for groups of about 8 to 40. Above that, base in Sorrento or split across several small hotels and meet for dinners.

Is Positano practical for working sessions?

For short, focused sessions, yes. Plan mornings indoors or on a shaded terrace, and keep afternoons for the sea, since few hotels have large meeting rooms.

What is the best way to get to Positano?

In season, a boat from Sorrento or Salerno is often faster and more pleasant than the coast road. Outside the ferry season, a private car from Naples takes about ninety minutes.

When are Positano hotels closed?

Many close from about November to March. Plan a Positano offsite between late April and October.
