Corporate retreat in the Okanagan Valley: venues, activities and a 3-day plan

The Okanagan Valley runs roughly north to south through BC's southern interior, a chain of long lakes, orchards and vineyards from Vernon down to the US border at Osoyoos. It suits teams of 10 to 150 who want a summer or harvest-season retreat built around wine, water and warm, dry weather, with real choice between a city base and a small-town one.

This guide looks at the valley as a whole, so you can match the part of it to your group. Kelowna is the hub, covered in detail in our Kelowna guide; Penticton sits between two lakes in the middle; and the South Okanagan around Oliver and Osoyoos is desert wine country.

Why the Okanagan Valley works for a team offsite

  • One main airport. Kelowna International has nonstop service across Canada and a small number of US routes that vary by season; most US teams connect through Vancouver, Calgary or Seattle. Downtown Kelowna is about 20 minutes away, Penticton roughly an hour and Osoyoos about two hours.
  • Pick a pace. The north has a city with hotels and nightlife; the south has quieter resort towns and estate wineries.
  • Venues with a view. Many wineries host private dinners and events overlooking the lake, which turns an ordinary group meal into the highlight of the trip.
  • Dry, sunny summers. The valley is one of the warmest and driest corners of Canada, so outdoor plans are rarely rained out.
  • The caveats are heat and smoke. July and August can be very hot, and wildfire smoke has affected some recent summers, so keep an indoor fallback in the plan.

Best time for a corporate retreat in the Okanagan Valley

Late May, June and September are the strongest months for most teams: warm, green or golden, and less busy than high summer. July and August deliver lake days but also peak rates, heavy traffic on Highway 97 and the highest wildfire risk. Harvest runs from roughly September into October, and the fall wine festival brings tastings and events across the valley in early October. Winter is quiet in wine country, with shorter tasting room hours, but nearby ski hills such as Big White and SilverStar make a winter program possible.

Budget and planning notes

July, August and long weekends are the priciest times in the valley, and lakefront rooms carry a premium all summer. Ground transport is a real line item because the valley is long: a private coach for wine touring is safer and often cheaper per person than taxis. Winery buyouts and private dinners typically come with food and beverage minimums. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately.
