Megève is the most village-like of the big French ski resorts, a medieval center of stone and wood with horse-drawn sleighs, about an hour from Geneva. It suits leadership teams, client hospitality events and incentive groups of 10 to 80 who want a refined mountain setting where non-skiers feel just as at home as experts.

Next door, Chamonix is about high mountains and adventure. Megève is gentler: wide, tree-lined slopes, long lunches and a car-free village center. For an overview of the whole region, see our French Alps guide.

Why Megève works for a team offsite

  • Getting there. Geneva airport, with connections from most major hubs and some US nonstops, is roughly an hour and 10 minutes away by road. The nearest train station is Sallanches, about 20 minutes down the valley.
  • Chalet hotels with character. Many hotels are built from old farmhouses and timber chalets, and several run seminar and incentive programs.
  • Non-skier friendly. Gentle slopes, snowshoe trails, spas and the village itself mean mixed-ability groups do not split up.
  • Room for working sessions. Hotels here tend to be small, so a group of 30 or more often books one property for meetings and a second nearby for rooms. That keeps sessions intimate and gives people a short walk through the village between the two.
  • Easy evenings. The pedestrian village center keeps restaurants, bars and shops a short walk from most hotels.
  • The caveats. Megève's altitude is fairly low for the Alps, around 1,100 meters in the village, so early and late-season snow is less certain than in higher resorts. It is also one of the pricier French resorts.

Best time for a corporate retreat in Megève

For a ski retreat, mid-January to mid-March is the most reliable window. Christmas, New Year and the February French school holidays are the most crowded and expensive weeks. Summer, from late June to early September, brings hiking, golf, mountain biking and open-air events, and some hotels offer better group rates then. April, May, October and November are quiet, and many hotels and restaurants close for at least part of those months. If your dates are fixed in a shoulder month, ask each hotel for its opening calendar before you shortlist it, and consider Annecy or Geneva as a fallback base.

Budget and planning notes

Megève's luxury hotels are expensive in peak weeks and often need minimum stays, while January after the holidays and March can be noticeably cheaper. Ski passes, rental and instructors add up quickly for mixed groups, so budget per skier and offer non-ski options. Summer brings lower rates and more availability for full hotel buyouts. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately.
