Corporate retreat in Malta: venues, activities and a 3-day plan
Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and 24/7 remote support. Free proposal in days.
Malta packs a lot into a small space: a fortified capital, Valletta, a long history from Neolithic temples to the Knights of St John, clear water for swimming and diving, and a hotel market used to conferences and incentive trips. It suits sales kickoffs, leadership offsites and mid-size company trips, especially for teams that want sun most of the year.
The case for Malta is ease. English is an official language, the euro is the currency, distances are short and there is a good spread of meeting hotels. For US teams the trip involves a connection, but once you land nothing is far away.
Why Malta works for a team offsite
- Getting there. Malta International Airport has flights from most major European hubs, including London, Frankfurt, Rome and Paris. There are no regular nonstops from the US, so teams connect in Europe. Valletta is about 20 minutes from the airport, and St Julian's roughly 25 to 30 minutes.
- English everywhere. Signs, menus and business are commonly in English, which removes a layer of friction for American teams.
- A real venue mix. Large conference hotels in Floriana and St Julian's, boutique palazzos in Valletta and Mdina, and a resort on the quieter island of Gozo.
- Short hops for evenings. Valletta's streets, the Sliema and St Julian's waterfront, and harbor-view terraces are all close together.
- Caveats. Summer is hot and busy, traffic on the main island can be slow at peak times, and some heritage sites have stairs and uneven streets.
Best time for a corporate retreat in Malta
April to June and late September to November are the best windows: warm, sunny and calmer than high summer, with the sea warm enough for swimming from about June into October. July and August are hot and packed with European holidaymakers, which pushes up prices. Winter is mild and much cheaper, good for a meeting-focused trip, though some days are windy and wet. Carnival in February brings parades to Valletta and is worth a look if your dates line up.
Corporate retreat venues in Malta
The Phoenicia Malta
A grand hotel just outside Valletta's city gates in Floriana, with a ballroom, gardens and event spaces. It is the classic choice for a leadership dinner or a mid-size meeting within walking distance of the capital.
Grand Hotel Excelsior
A large waterfront hotel in Floriana, below the Valletta bastions. Its meetings page lists fourteen meeting rooms and more than 4,000 m² of conference and banqueting space, which puts it among the island's options for a sales kickoff or full company meeting.
Corinthia St George's Bay
A resort on a sea-facing headland in St Julian's, part of the Malta-founded Corinthia group, which runs meetings and events across its hotels. It suits mid-size and larger groups that want a resort pool and the St Julian's restaurants nearby.
The Xara Palace
A Relais & Châteaux hotel in a palazzo inside the walled city of Mdina. Its meetings and events team, together with Xara catering, works well for an executive retreat or a private dinner in a historic setting.
Rosselli AX Privilege
A boutique hotel in a historic palazzo in Valletta, with a private room for corporate meetings. It is a good base for a small leadership group that wants to stay in the capital.
Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz (Gozo)
A resort in the countryside of Gozo, the smaller island reached by a short ferry, with meeting venues and a MICE and incentives offer. It suits a group that wants a slower pace and space to think.
Palazzo Parisio
An 18th-century palace with Italianate gardens in Naxxar, in the center of Malta, that hosts bespoke events. Book it for a gala dinner or a team lunch in the gardens rather than as a place to stay.

Budget and planning notes
Malta is usually good value compared with the French or Italian coast, but rates climb in July and August and around major events. Large conference hotels can offer packages for big groups, while palazzo hotels in Valletta and Mdina are smaller and fill quickly. Adding Gozo means ferry and transfer time, so budget an extra night if you want to stay there. Private boat charters and gala dinners at historic venues are the main extras. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. To see a Malta program priced as one upfront amount per person, ask for a free itemized proposal in days; every trip comes with 24/7 remote support and an optional on-site coordinator. More detail is in our corporate retreat cost guide.

Malta corporate retreat FAQs
Where should a team stay in Malta?
Valletta and Floriana are best for history and walkable dinners. St Julian's and Sliema have bigger resort hotels and nightlife, and Gozo suits a quieter retreat.
Do people speak English in Malta?
Yes. English is one of Malta's two official languages, alongside Maltese, and it is widely used in business and tourism.
How do US teams get to Malta?
Connect through a European hub such as London, Frankfurt, Rome or Paris. The flight from most of these is about two to three hours.
Is Malta warm enough in winter?
It is mild compared with most of Europe, which makes winter good for a meeting-focused trip. It is not reliable beach weather, though, and some days are windy or rainy.
