Guatemala gives a team a lot of country for a short flight from the US. Colonial streets ringed by volcanoes, a highland lake with Maya villages on its shore, a jungle-wrapped ancient city and some of the best coffee farms in the Americas are all within a few hours of each other. It suits groups of 10 to 150 that want culture, purpose and a little adventure, without a long-haul journey.

The seven places below are the strongest options for a corporate retreat in Guatemala. For each, you'll see who it fits, the type of venue, the best months and an approximate transfer time.

Where to hold a corporate retreat in Guatemala

Antigua

Best for: the heart of most Guatemala offsites: cobbled streets, ruined convents, coffee farm tours, chocolate workshops and rooftop dinners facing Volcán de Agua. Group size: 15 to 200. Venue type: converted monastery and colonial-house hotels, garden boutique properties and coffee estates on the edge of town. Season: November to April. Getting there: about 1 to 1.5 hours by road from La Aurora International Airport, depending on traffic. Our Antigua Guatemala retreat guide covers it in depth.

Lake Atitlán

Best for: leadership and wellness retreats with boat rides between villages, weaving cooperatives, kayaking and yoga with three volcanoes across the water. Group size: 8 to 80. Venue type: lakeside boutique hotels, retreat centers and garden lodges reachable by boat. Season: November to April. Getting there: about 2.5 to 3 hours by road from Antigua to Panajachel, then short boat transfers to other villages.

Guatemala City

Best for: business-focused meetings, regional partner sessions and large plenaries before moving on to Antigua. Group size: 20 to 400. Venue type: international business hotels in Zona 10 and convention-style hotels with ballrooms. Season: year-round. Getting there: about 15 to 30 minutes by road from the airport to the main hotel zones.

Tikal and Flores

Best for: a dramatic add-on to see Maya temples rising above the rainforest canopy at sunrise. Group size: 10 to 80. Venue type: lakeside hotels on the island town of Flores and jungle lodges near the park. Season: November to April. Getting there: about 1 hour by domestic flight from Guatemala City to Flores, then roughly 1 hour by road to Tikal.

Chichicastenango

Best for: a highland day trip to one of the region's best-known markets, with textiles, masks and a church steeped in Maya and Catholic ritual. Group size: 10 to 100. Venue type: day visit, usually combined with a stay at Lake Atitlán. Season: year-round; the market runs on Thursdays and Sundays. Getting there: about 1 to 1.5 hours by road from Lake Atitlán.

The volcano trails around Antigua

Best for: active teams who want a shared challenge: a half-day hike on Pacaya or an overnight climb of Acatenango to watch nearby Fuego erupt. Group size: 6 to 40, with guides. Venue type: guided hikes and mountain base camps. Season: November to April for the clearest views. Getting there: roughly 1 to 1.5 hours by road from Antigua to most trailheads.

The Pacific coast

Best for: a laid-back close to the trip with black-sand beaches, turtle hatchery visits and mangrove boat rides. Group size: 10 to 80. Venue type: small beach hotels and private villa rentals around Monterrico and El Paredón. Season: November to April. Getting there: about 2 hours by road from Antigua.

Best time for a corporate retreat in Guatemala

The dry season, November to April, brings clear mornings, volcano views and the easiest road conditions. From May to October, afternoon rain is common, though mornings are often fine and the countryside turns green; heavier storms later in the season can slow roads and cause landslides. Semana Santa, the week before Easter, fills Antigua with processions and carpets of colored sawdust; it is spectacular, but rooms sell out and prices rise, so book very early or pick other dates. Highland nights are cool all year, so pack a warm layer.

Choosing a Guatemalan location by goal

For a team offsite built around connection, three nights in Antigua with a coffee farm visit, a cooking class and one volcano outing works for most groups. Leadership teams that want depth and quiet should add two nights at Lake Atitlán, where the boat-only villages limit distractions. Companies interested in social impact can visit artisan cooperatives and community projects around the lake. Teams with a big plenary agenda can start in Guatemala City before heading to Antigua for the rest of the program.

La Aurora has nonstop flights from many US hubs, often under five hours, which makes Guatemala one of the easiest culture-rich trips for US teams. Safety conditions vary by area and change over time, so use private transport between regions and check current government travel advice when you plan.

Budget and planning notes

Guatemala offers strong value on lodging, food and guiding compared with many Caribbean and Central American destinations, though Antigua's top boutique hotels and Semana Santa week price at a premium. Private transfers, bilingual guides and domestic flights to Flores are the main cost lines. Smaller lakeside hotels mean larger groups may need two properties. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Nearby alternatives

  • Belize: reef islands and jungle lodges just to the east.
  • Mexico: Mérida, Oaxaca and the Riviera Maya to the north.
  • Costa Rica: rainforest, volcanoes and Pacific beach resorts.
  • Mexico City: a large city base with world-class food and museums.

Guatemala corporate retreat FAQs

Where should a team stay for a Guatemala retreat?

Antigua is the best base for most groups, with walkable streets, good hotels and easy day trips. Lake Atitlán works well as a second base for smaller teams.

How many days does a Guatemala offsite need?

Four to six nights covers Antigua and Lake Atitlán. Add two nights if you want to fly to Flores for Tikal.

Is Semana Santa a good time for a company retreat?

It is memorable but crowded and expensive in Antigua. If you want quieter streets and better availability, choose other weeks in the dry season.

Can large groups stay at Lake Atitlán?

Lakeside hotels are mostly small, so groups above about 80 usually split across two properties or visit the lake on day trips from Antigua.
