Chianti is the band of wooded hills and vineyards between Florence and Siena, dotted with castles, stone villages and wine estates that have been making Chianti Classico for centuries. It suits leadership retreats, sales incentives and team offsites of about 15 to 120 people who want to stay on a working wine estate, hold sessions in a converted barn or cellar, and walk out into the vines afterward.
Chianti is one part of our wider Tuscany guide. What sets it apart is proximity: most estates are within an hour of Florence Airport, so you get deep countryside without a long transfer.
Why Chianti works for a team offsite
- Getting there. Florence Airport is roughly 40 minutes to an hour from most Chianti villages by road; Pisa is about an hour and a half. US teams often fly nonstop to Rome and take a train to Florence, or connect through a European hub.
- Estates built for groups. Castle hotels, restored medieval hamlets and wine relais offer meeting rooms, private dining and full buyouts, so the whole team can stay together.
- Wine on site. Many venues are working wineries, which turns a tasting or cellar tour into a short walk rather than an excursion.
- Two cities nearby. Florence and Siena are each under an hour away, good for a half-day or a final night.
- The caveats. Roads are winding and estates are spread out, so every outing needs a coach or minibus. Evenings are on the estate unless you plan transport.
Best time for a corporate retreat in Chianti
May, June, September and October are the best months. September and October bring the grape harvest, rich food and autumn color, and are the most popular months for wine-led retreats. July and August are hot but still workable if sessions run in the morning. Early October also brings the Eroica vintage cycling event to Gaiole, which fills nearby hotels. November is olive-oil season and quieter. Winter is cool and calm, and some estates close for part of it, so check opening dates before you commit.
Corporate retreat venues in Chianti
COMO Castello del Nero
A 12th-century castle estate near Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in northern Chianti, with event spaces that include the original cellar and terraces over the hills. Its events page notes that the whole estate can be bought out for meetings, which suits an executive retreat or incentive group.
Borgo San Felice
A restored medieval hamlet and wine estate in the south of Chianti Classico, near Castelnuovo Berardenga, with event spaces, restaurants and a team that organizes stays around the vineyard. It suits groups that want a village of their own.
Castello di Meleto
A castle winery near Gaiole in Chianti with rooms on the estate, a meeting room in the old stables and offers for corporate conferences and team building. It is a good fit for mid-size groups that want the castle-and-vineyard experience at a moderate level.
Borgo Scopeto Relais
A restored hamlet near Vagliagli, about 20 minutes from Siena, with a dedicated meeting and incentive offer. It works for sales incentives and offsites that want easy access to Siena.
Badia a Coltibuono
A former abbey and wine estate above Gaiole, whose site lists company conventions among the events it hosts. It suits smaller leadership groups and memorable dinners in a historic setting.
Villa Mangiacane
A Renaissance villa near San Casciano, at the Florence end of Chianti, with a loggia and other settings for corporate events. It is the closest option here to Florence and its airport.
Vignamaggio
A historic estate near Greve in Chianti with a restaurant, tours and tastings, and a program of events and workshops. It works for a tasting afternoon, a workshop day or a small group stay.

Budget and planning notes
Chianti spans a wide price range, from luxury castle buyouts to family-run relais. Costs climb in September and October, when estates are busiest, and exclusive use of a property usually carries a minimum spend. Ground transport is a meaningful line item because every outing needs a vehicle. Midweek dates in May and June give good value. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Tell us your group size and we'll draft a free itemized proposal in days, with one upfront price per person, 24/7 remote support and an optional on-site coordinator. More detail is in our corporate retreat cost guide.

Chianti corporate retreat FAQs
Where in Chianti should we base the team?
Northern Chianti, around Greve, Tavarnelle and San Casciano, is closest to Florence. Southern Chianti, around Gaiole and Castelnuovo Berardenga, is quieter and closer to Siena.
Can a Chianti estate host the whole team?
Many can host 20 to about 100 people on site, and some offer full buyouts. Larger groups usually split across two nearby estates and meet for sessions.
Do we need cars in Chianti?
Yes. Villages and estates are spread across winding roads, so plan a coach or minibuses for every outing and keep drivers on call for evenings.
When is the Chianti grape harvest?
Usually from mid-September into October, depending on the year. It is the most atmospheric time to visit, so book estates early.
