Corporate retreat in Arenal and La Fortuna: venues, activities and a 3-day plan
Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and 24/7 remote support. Free proposal in days.
Arenal and the town of La Fortuna, in Costa Rica's northern lowlands, are built around a near-perfect volcanic cone, natural hot springs and a lot of rainforest adventure. They suit active teams that want an outdoorsy offsite with a relaxed evening soak, and they work best for groups of about 15 to 120 people.
The one-line case: you can rappel down a waterfall canyon in the afternoon and sit in a thermal river under the volcano that evening. The catch is weather. This is a rainforest, and rain is possible in any month, so the agenda needs a plan B.
Why Arenal works for a team offsite
- Two airports to choose from. San José's Juan Santamaría airport (SJO) is roughly 3 hours away by road, and Liberia's airport (LIR) in Guanacaste is about 2.5 to 3 hours. Both have nonstop flights from many US hubs, so teams can be split by origin.
- Hot springs on the property. Many resorts along the road west of La Fortuna sit on geothermal water, which gives a group a built-in evening activity without another transfer.
- Adventure density. Hanging bridges, zip lines, canyoning, rafting and volcano hikes are all within roughly 30 minutes of most hotels, so you can offer two or three activity tracks on the same afternoon.
- Work-friendly resorts. The larger hotels have boardrooms, event halls and covered terraces facing the volcano.
- The caveats. Clouds often hide the summit, especially in the afternoon, and heavy rain can wash out outdoor plans. Most venues are spread along a single road, so evening outings in town need transport.
Best time for a corporate retreat in Arenal
February through April are usually the driest months and the most popular. Arenal follows a different rain pattern from the Pacific coast, so it can still be a fair choice in parts of September and October, when Guanacaste is at its wettest, though heavy showers are possible at any time. The Christmas and New Year holidays and Semana Santa are the busiest weeks, and hot-springs resorts fill with domestic visitors on long weekends. Book outdoor activities for the morning, when skies are most often clear.
Corporate retreat venues in Arenal
The Springs Resort & Spa
A hillside resort with volcano views, a large set of hot-spring pools, an on-property adventure center and several indoor and outdoor meeting venues. It is the most complete choice for a team that wants work space, activities and evening soaks in one place.
Hotel Arenal Kioro
A suite hotel close to the volcano with its own thermal pools and a dedicated meetings and events offering. It suits mid-size teams that want large rooms and views of the cone from the meeting space.
Hotel Los Lagos
A spread-out hot-springs resort at the foot of the volcano with event halls and a boardroom for conferences and meetings. Its range of room types makes it a practical, budget-friendly fit for a larger company group.
Amor Arenal
A small luxury property in private rainforest with suites, a spa and hot-spring pools, and a wedding and celebration program. It works well for an executive team of up to a couple of dozen people that wants privacy.
We could only confirm group and event programs for these four properties on their own websites. Several other well-known hot-springs resorts in the area take day visitors for soaks, which is an easy add-on for any group.

Budget and planning notes
Arenal is often less expensive than the beach regions for lodging, but the long airport transfers add to the ground transport line, and activity fees add up quickly when you run several tracks. Dry-season weeks and holidays push rates up, while the green season brings good discounts at the larger resorts. Booking a single property with its own springs saves on nightly shuttles. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Send us your dates and group size and we will build you a free itemized proposal in days with a single upfront price per person, 24/7 remote support and an optional on-site coordinator. Our corporate retreat cost guide shows where the money goes.

- Costa Rica retreat locations: compare the volcano region with the beaches and the capital.
- Guanacaste: dry Pacific beaches about 2.5 hours west, often paired with Arenal on longer trips.
- San José: a city base for teams that want shorter transfers.
- Panama City: another Central American option with a major airline hub.
Arenal corporate retreat FAQs
Which airport is better for an Arenal retreat?
Both work. San José is roughly 3 hours away and Liberia about 2.5 to 3 hours, so pick the one with better flights from where most of your team lives.
Can we see the Arenal Volcano erupt?
No. The volcano has been in a resting phase for years, so you will see the cone and old lava flows, not lava. Clouds often cover the top, with mornings usually clearest.
How rainy is Arenal for a company retreat?
Rain is possible any month. February to April is usually driest, and a good plan keeps sessions indoors in the afternoon and outdoor activities in the morning.
Can we combine Arenal with a beach?
Yes. Many teams spend two nights in Arenal and two on the Guanacaste coast, which is about 2.5 hours away by road.
