Corporate retreat locations in Taiwan

Taiwan is a quietly excellent offsite destination: safe, friendly, efficient and easy to move around, with mountain lakes, marble gorges and tropical beaches a few hours from a capital famous for night markets. Hardware, semiconductor and software teams with supply chains in the region often find it the most practical place in Asia to gather, and food-loving teams of any kind will be happy.

Here are six corporate retreat locations in Taiwan, each with the group it suits, the venue style, the season and access. Travel times are rough estimates.

Where to hold a corporate retreat in Taiwan

Taipei

Best for: large meetings and first Taiwan trips with night markets, temple visits, hot springs in Beitou and day hikes in the hills above the city. Group size: 20 to 800. Venue type: Xinyi district luxury hotels, business hotels with ballrooms and a few design hotels. Season: October to December and March to April. Getting there: about 40 minutes to 1 hour from Taoyuan airport by metro or car, or roughly 20 minutes from Songshan. Our Taipei retreat guide has a sample plan.

Jiufen and the northeast coast

Best for: a day or overnight from Taipei with hillside teahouses, old mining-town lanes and coastal walks. Group size: 10 to 100. Venue type: small hotels, teahouses and hot-spring inns. Season: autumn and spring; it is often misty and wet. Getting there: about 1 hour by car from central Taipei.

Sun Moon Lake

Best for: leadership retreats with lakeside cycling, boat rides and tea plantation visits. Group size: 10 to 200. Venue type: lakeside resort hotels with meeting rooms. Season: year-round, with fall the most settled. Getting there: about 1 hour by high-speed rail from Taipei to Taichung, then roughly 1.25 hours by car.

Hualien and Taroko

Best for: nature-led offsites with gorge views, coastal drives and river activities. Group size: 10 to 200. Venue type: resort hotels near the coast and lodges near the gorge. Season: October to April. Getting there: roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by train from Taipei. Some Taroko trails have been closed for repairs after past earthquakes, so check current access before you plan hikes.

Tainan

Best for: food and history teams that want the old capital's temples, snack streets and a slower pace. Group size: 15 to 200. Venue type: city hotels and renovated heritage stays. Season: November to March; it is hot the rest of the year. Getting there: about 1.75 hours by high-speed rail from Taipei.

Kaohsiung and Kenting

Best for: mid-size team trips that pair a harbor city's art districts with a southern beach finish. Group size: 15 to 400. Venue type: harborfront hotels and an exhibition center in Kaohsiung, plus beach resorts in Kenting. Season: November to April. Getting there: about 1.5 hours by high-speed rail from Taipei to Kaohsiung, then roughly 2 hours by car to Kenting.

Best time for a corporate retreat in Taiwan

October to December is the most reliable period across the island, and March to April is also good. The plum rains arrive in May and June, then summer brings heat, humidity and the typhoon season from about July to October, when flights and east coast roads can be disrupted. The north is cool and damp in winter while the south stays mild and dry. Avoid Lunar New Year, when domestic travel peaks and many restaurants close.

Choosing a Taiwan location by goal

Taipei is the natural base for a working offsite: good hotels, easy transport and dozens of evening options. Leadership teams that want focus can move to Sun Moon Lake for two nights. Hualien suits teams who want time outdoors, and the south suits a winter trip in search of sunshine. The high-speed rail line down the west coast makes a north-to-south program simple.

Activities that work well for teams include a guided night market crawl with a list of dishes to try, a bubble tea or pineapple cake workshop, a cycling loop around Sun Moon Lake, an Elephant Mountain sunset hike above Taipei and a soak in the Beitou hot springs after a long work day. Private dining rooms are common in Taipei restaurants and suit groups of 10 to 30. English signage is good on trains and in cities, and a local guide helps most in the countryside.

Budget and planning notes

Taiwan generally costs less than Tokyo, Seoul or Hong Kong for comparable hotels, and group meals at local restaurants are excellent value. Lake and coastal resorts are fewer and fill on weekends and holidays, so midweek dates help. Rail is inexpensive, while private coaches are worth it for the lake and the east coast. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Nearby alternatives

  • Japan: a short flight north for onsen towns and bullet trains.
  • Okinawa: subtropical beaches just to the northeast.
  • Philippines: islands and resorts a short hop south.
  • China: Hong Kong, Macau and Shanghai for big-city programs.

Taiwan corporate retreat FAQs

Is Taiwan good for a team offsite?

Yes. It is safe, easy to navigate, and costs are reasonable for Asia. Taipei handles large groups, and the countryside is reachable within a few hours.

How many days should a Taiwan retreat be?

Four nights covers Taipei and one excursion. Six nights allows a second base at Sun Moon Lake, Hualien or the south.

What about typhoon season?

Typhoons are most likely from July to October. If you travel then, keep the program Taipei-centered and build a flexible day into the schedule.

Do teams need cash in Taiwan?

Hotels and larger restaurants take cards, but night markets and small shops often want cash. A prepaid transit card also pays for many small purchases.
