Sokcho is a small port city on Korea's east coast, squeezed between the East Sea and the granite peaks of Seoraksan National Park. It suits teams of roughly 10 to 150 who already know Seoul and want a second leg with mountains, a beach and seafood, or a Korea-based team that wants a real change of scene without a flight.
The case for it: in one place you get a national park trailhead, a long sandy beach and a lively fish market, all within a short drive of each other. The trade-off is scale. Hotels are resort-style rather than convention-grade, and most of them sit just outside the city limits.
Why Sokcho works for a team offsite
- Reachable from Seoul by road. Incheon International has nonstop flights from many US cities. From Seoul, express buses and private coaches reach Sokcho in roughly two and a half to three hours via the Seoul–Yangyang Expressway. Yangyang International Airport, about 20 minutes south, has only a thin domestic and regional schedule, so plan around ground transfers.
- Mountain and sea resorts side by side. The Seorak-dong area at the park entrance has hotels in the foothills, while the coastal strip north into Goseong and south into Yangyang has beach resorts with banquet halls.
- A clean break from the office. Without a dense business district, teams tend to stay together in sessions and at meals instead of drifting off.
- Easy evenings. Sokcho Jungang Market, the seafood restaurants around Daepo Port and the beachfront cafés give you dinner options within about 15 minutes of most hotels.
- The caveat. Peak foliage weekends in October bring heavy traffic on park roads and the expressway, and winter on the coast is cold and windy.
Best time for a corporate retreat in Sokcho
Late May through June and September into early October are the sweet spots: mild hiking weather, clear coastal views and fewer crowds than midsummer. Mid to late October is the most beautiful time in Seoraksan but also the busiest, so book early and plan to hike on weekdays. July and August are beach season, with domestic holiday crowds, humidity and the chance of a typhoon or heavy rain. December through February works for a quiet, cozy leadership retreat, though some trails close and the wind off the sea is sharp. Avoid the Chuseok and Lunar New Year holidays, when roads out of Seoul are jammed.
Corporate retreat venues in Sokcho
Kensington Hotel Seorak
A long-running hotel right at the Seoraksan park entrance in Sokcho, with British-themed interiors, wedding and banquet space and group booking terms. It is the easiest pick for a hiking-focused offsite, since the cable car and trailheads are a short walk away.
Kensington Resort Seorak Valley
A condo-style resort in the valleys of Goseong, just north of Sokcho and roughly 20 minutes from the city center by car. Suite-style units with kitchens suit small teams that want a relaxed, self-paced stay, and the property has banquet space for group dinners.
Sono Felice Delpino (nearby, Goseong)
A large resort set beneath the Ulsanbawi rock face, about 15 to 20 minutes from central Sokcho, with golf, a spa and an infinity pool facing the mountains. Sono lists Delpino on its MICE program, which makes it the strongest local choice for bigger groups that need meeting rooms and resort amenities on one site.
Kensington Resort Seorak Beach (nearby, Goseong)
A beachfront resort on the coast north of Sokcho, roughly 20 to 25 minutes away, with its own banquet hall. It suits teams that want ocean-view rooms and a beach walk before breakfast, with the park still close enough for a day hike.
Sol Beach Yangyang (nearby, Yangyang)
A Mediterranean-style beach resort about 30 minutes south of Sokcho, close to Yangyang airport and the surf beaches around Jukdo. Sono handles group events here too, and it pairs well with a surf lesson or a visit to Naksansa Temple.

Team activities in Sokcho
- Ride the Seoraksan cable car to the Gwongeumseong fortress ruins for a short, easy outing that works for every fitness level.
- Hike to Ulsanbawi for strong walkers; the stair-heavy final section makes it a real team challenge, so offer an easier valley walk to Biryong Falls as an alternative.
- Cross to Abai Village on the hand-pulled gaetbae ferry, then try the village's sundae and naengmyeon.
- Run a market crawl through Sokcho Jungang Market, splitting the team into small groups with a short list of local snacks to find.
- Book a group surf lesson at a Yangyang beach in summer or early fall.
- Walk to Yeonggeumjeong pavilion at sunrise, a short coastal stroll from Daepo Port.
- Visit Naksansa, a seaside Buddhist temple in Yangyang, with a guide who can explain its history.
- Close a day with a raw-fish and grilled seafood dinner at Daepo Port, ordering from the tanks.

Budget and planning notes
Costs in Sokcho swing with Korean holiday calendars more than anything else. Summer beach weeks, foliage weekends in October and public holidays lift resort rates and fill coaches, while midweek stays in June or early September are noticeably cheaper. Ground transport is a real line item because nearly everyone arrives by road from Seoul. Large groups may need to split across two resorts, which adds shuttle time. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Sokcho corporate retreat FAQs
How do we get a team from Seoul to Sokcho?
A chartered coach is the simplest option, taking roughly two and a half to three hours from central Seoul on the expressway. Public express buses also run frequently from Seoul's main bus terminals if people are traveling separately.
Should we stay in Sokcho or in Goseong or Yangyang?
Stay near the Seoraksan entrance if hiking is the focus, and on the Goseong or Yangyang coast if you want beach resorts with more amenities. Every option on this page is within about 30 minutes of central Sokcho.
When is fall foliage season in Seoraksan?
Color usually peaks in mid to late October. It is the most scenic time to go, but weekend traffic and crowds are heavy, so plan park visits on weekdays.
Can Sokcho handle a large company offsite?
It works best for groups up to about 150. Larger teams usually need to split across resorts or base themselves at the biggest resort and keep the program on site.
