Scotland is a natural fit for teams that like a bit of weather with their strategy. It pairs two very different cities with castle hotels, whisky country, famous golf links and some of the emptiest landscapes in Europe, and everyone speaks English. It suits leadership offsites and mid-size team trips best, especially when the group is happy to swap sunshine for long walks and fireside evenings.

Eight places to hold a corporate retreat in Scotland are compared below, each with its best use, an indicative group size, the venue style, good months and how long the transfer takes. Times are approximate and depend on roads and weather.

Where to hold a corporate retreat in Scotland

Edinburgh

Best for: company meetings and culture-led offsites that want a castle-topped old town, Georgian streets and plenty of evening options. Group size: 20 to 500. Venue type: grand railway-era hotels, design hotels, historic halls and a large international conference center. Season: April to June and September to October; avoid August unless you want the festivals. Getting there: about 30 minutes by tram from Edinburgh Airport to the city center. See our Edinburgh retreat guide for venues and a 3-day plan.

Glasgow

Best for: larger team events that want a friendly, music-loving city with great Victorian architecture and good-value hotels. Group size: 20 to 600. Venue type: city-center hotels, warehouse venues along the Clyde and a major events campus. Season: year-round indoors; May to September for outdoor add-ons. Getting there: about 20 minutes by car from Glasgow Airport, or roughly 1 hour by train from Edinburgh.

St Andrews and Fife

Best for: golf-centered leadership retreats and small teams that want a historic university town on the coast. Group size: 10 to 150. Venue type: golf resorts, seaside hotels and country houses in the surrounding farmland. Season: May to September. Getting there: about 1.25 to 1.5 hours by car from Edinburgh Airport. Read the St Andrews retreat guide for more.

Perthshire

Best for: leadership offsites that want a classic Scottish estate with fishing, clay shooting, forest walks and a whisky tasting after dinner. Group size: 10 to 200. Venue type: castle hotels, country estates and resort hotels with meeting space. Season: April to October, with autumn colors in October. Getting there: about 1 to 1.5 hours by car from Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs

Best for: team trips that want lochside hikes, kayaking and boat trips without a long drive from a major airport. Group size: 10 to 150. Venue type: lochside hotels, lodges and self-catered estate houses. Season: May to September. Getting there: about 45 minutes to 1 hour by car from Glasgow.

Inverness and the Scottish Highlands

Best for: small and mid-size teams that want big landscapes, Loch Ness, castle ruins and a remote, reflective setting. Group size: 10 to 120. Venue type: Highland lodges, country house hotels and exclusive-use estates. Season: May to September. Getting there: about 1.25 hours by plane from London, or roughly 3.5 hours by train from Edinburgh. Our Scottish Highlands retreat guide has the detail.

Speyside

Best for: small groups built around distillery visits, river walks and long dinners in a whisky-making valley. Group size: 8 to 60. Venue type: country inns, distillery-adjacent hotels and estate houses. Season: April to October. Getting there: about 1 to 1.5 hours by car from Inverness or Aberdeen.

Isle of Skye

Best for: very small founder or executive retreats that want dramatic coastal hiking, seafood and true remoteness. Group size: 6 to 30. Venue type: small hotels, restaurant-with-rooms properties and holiday houses. Season: May to September, booked well ahead. Getting there: about 2.5 to 3 hours by car from Inverness.

Best time for a corporate retreat in Scotland

May, June and September are the best months, with long days, fewer visitors and the best chance of dry spells. Edinburgh in August is dominated by the Festival Fringe and related festivals: brilliant for culture, but hotel prices jump and rooms vanish. Summer also brings midges to the west Highlands and Skye, so pack repellent and favor breezy coastal spots. Winter is dark and wet, though Edinburgh's Hogmanay at New Year and cozy country house hotels can make a small December or January retreat work.

Choosing a Scottish location by goal

A big kickoff belongs in Edinburgh or Glasgow, which have the rooms, the venues and the transport links. A strategy offsite for a leadership team fits best on a Perthshire or Highland estate where the group can take over the whole house. If the trip is a reward, St Andrews golf or a Speyside whisky trail will do more for morale than another hotel ballroom.

Scotland is part of the UK, which now asks most visitors, including US citizens, to get an electronic travel authorisation before the trip. Check current government travel advice and UK entry rules for every traveler well ahead of departure. Edinburgh and Glasgow both have nonstop flights from several US East Coast hubs, more of them in summer.

Budget and planning notes

Edinburgh hotel prices spike in August and over New Year, while Glasgow is usually better value year-round. Country estates are often booked on an exclusive-use basis, which works out well for a group that fills them. Distances look short on a map, but Highland roads are slow, so allow for coach time and avoid packing too many stops into one day. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Scotland corporate retreat FAQs

Where should a company stay for a Scotland offsite?

Edinburgh is the easiest base for most groups. For a leadership retreat, a Perthshire country estate gives seclusion while staying within about 1.5 hours of both main airports.

Is Scotland good for a team retreat in winter?

For small groups, yes, if you plan around short days and rain. Base the trip in a country house with good fires and keep outdoor activities flexible.

How do we get a team to the Highlands?

Fly into Inverness, take the train north from Edinburgh or Glasgow, or charter a coach. Most groups combine one city night with two or three in the Highlands.

Can we include golf on a Scottish retreat?

Yes. St Andrews, East Lothian and Perthshire all offer golf, but famous courses book up early and some use ballots, so plan well ahead.
