Corporate retreat on the Northshore, Louisiana: venues, activities and a 3-day plan
Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and 24/7 remote support. Free proposal in days.
The Northshore is the string of towns in St. Tammany Parish across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans: Covington, Mandeville, Abita Springs, Madisonville and Slidell. It suits leadership retreats, planning offsites and team trips of about 10 to 200 people who want New Orleans food and access without the French Quarter's noise.
The trade is clear: you give up nightlife on your doorstep and get live oaks, a lakefront, a long rail-trail and quieter venues, with the city about an hour away across the Causeway for one big night out. For a city-based trip, see our New Orleans guide.
Why the Northshore works for a team offsite
- Easy to reach. New Orleans' Louis Armstrong International Airport has nonstop flights from most major US cities, and the drive to Covington or Mandeville is about 45 minutes to an hour over the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.
- A calmer base. Small downtowns, tree-lined streets and the lakefront give the trip a slower pace that suits strategy work.
- Practical venues. A golf club with conference space, a parish event center and brewery taprooms cover sessions, dinners and team nights.
- Outdoor time. The Tammany Trace rail-trail links the towns, so a group bike ride can be the afternoon activity.
- The caveats. Hotel stock is mostly smaller boutique inns and chains along the interstate, so large groups may split properties. Summer is hot and hurricane season runs June to November.
Best time for a corporate retreat on the Northshore
March through May and October through early December give the most comfortable weather for the trail and the lakefront. Mardi Gras season brings parades to Covington and Mandeville as well as New Orleans, which can be a fun evening but closes streets. New Orleans festival weekends, such as Jazz Fest in late April and early May, raise flight and hotel prices across the region. Summer works only for indoor-heavy programs, and any trip in hurricane season needs flexible contracts.
Plan Causeway crossings with care. Morning and evening commuter traffic between the Northshore and New Orleans can stretch the drive, and strong wind or fog occasionally slows the bridge. Schedule the city night for a weekday evening after rush hour, and book the coach for a fixed return time so nobody is stranded. Most Northshore restaurants are spread across several towns, so a dine-around works best with a shuttle looping between Covington and Mandeville.
Corporate retreat venues on the Northshore
The Southern Hotel (Covington)
A renovated historic boutique hotel in downtown Covington's walkable district, close to restaurants, galleries and the Tammany Trace. The parish tourism board lists it as a meeting venue, with rooms in the hotel and a separate event property, The Greenwood, just north of town. It is the most convenient base for a small or mid-size team that wants to walk to dinner.
Money Hill Golf & Country Club (Abita Springs)
A golf club in a wooded community near Abita Springs that hosts business conferences, sales meetings and tournaments. It is the best fit for a leadership offsite that wants a meeting room, a team golf scramble and a dinner in one place.
Castine Center at Pelican Park (Mandeville)
A parish event center with large halls, a concourse and two conference rooms, used for conventions, board meetings and banquets. Use it when the group is too big for a hotel meeting room.
Abita Brewing Company (Covington)
The taproom of Louisiana's well-known craft brewery, which offers private events and special request tours for groups of 25 or more. Book it for a welcome evening or a casual afternoon after sessions.
The Harbor Center (Slidell, about 30 minutes)
An event and convention facility in Slidell, on the east side of the parish, with multiple event spaces. It suits a regional meeting or kickoff for teams driving in from the Gulf Coast.
Global Wildlife Center (Folsom, about 30 minutes)
A large wildlife preserve north of Covington where giraffes, zebras and other animals roam free, with private tours available. It makes a memorable half-day team outing.

Budget and planning notes
The Northshore is generally cheaper than downtown New Orleans for rooms and venues, but you pay for a coach across the Causeway on arrival, departure and any city night. Mardi Gras and the big New Orleans festivals raise prices regionally, so pick dates away from them unless they are part of the plan. Small inns may need full buyouts for privacy. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Send us your headcount and we will prepare a free itemized proposal in days, with one price per person, 24/7 remote support and an optional on-site coordinator.
