Corporate retreat in the Alentejo: venues, activities and a 3-day plan
Done-for-you team offsites with one itemized price per person and 24/7 remote support. Free proposal in days.
The Alentejo covers roughly a third of mainland Portugal, a quiet region of rolling plains, cork and olive groves, marble towns and some of the country's best-known wine estates. It suits leadership teams and mid-size groups that want space, privacy and long tables more than nightlife or beaches.
Unlike a city retreat, an Alentejo offsite usually means one estate as home base and short drives to everything else. If you want a town with restaurants at the door, start with our Évora guide; this page covers the wider countryside and how to choose a corner of it.
Why the Alentejo works for a team offsite
- Getting there. Lisbon is the main gateway, with nonstops from a long list of US cities. Most estates in the north and center of the region are about 1.5 to 2.5 hours away by road; the southern Alentejo is also reachable from Faro airport in roughly 1.5 to 2 hours.
- Venue mix. Wine hotels, restored farm villages, castle pousadas and a few larger resort-style properties, most of them set on private land.
- Room to think. Estates are self-contained, which makes them good for strategy work, board retreats and teams that want to switch off notifications.
- Evenings at the table. Dinners tend to happen on the estate: regional cooking, the house wine and long outdoor tables in warm months.
- The caveats. Summer is very hot inland, distances between towns add up, and estates are smaller than city hotels, so groups over about 100 may need two properties.
Best time for a corporate retreat in the Alentejo
Spring, from March to May, is the region at its best, with green fields and wildflowers. September and October bring the grape harvest and mild days, a natural fit for a wine-led program. July and August are dry and hot, often above 35°C inland, so outdoor sessions shift to early morning and evening. Winter is cool and quiet, with some estates offering lower rates and fireside rooms.

Budget and planning notes
Rural estates often price by exclusive use or with minimum stays, and the best weeks in spring and harvest book well ahead. Road transfers from Lisbon or Faro are the main logistics line, and splitting a big group between properties adds coaches. In return, food and wine costs are reasonable and quiet months bring real savings. Offsiteio trips start from about $999 per person depending on destination, with flights quoted separately. Tell us your dates, headcount and preferred corner of the region and we will return a free itemized proposal in days, with one upfront price per person, 24/7 remote support and an optional on-site coordinator. More detail is in our corporate retreat cost guide.

Alentejo corporate retreat FAQs
Which part of the Alentejo is best for a company retreat?
The area around Évora and Monsaraz is easiest, with good estates within about two hours of Lisbon. The south suits groups flying into Faro, and the northern marble and castle towns are the quietest.
How many days should we plan?
Three days works for one estate. Add a night if you want to combine the countryside with Lisbon or the coast.
Can the Alentejo host large groups?
Some larger vineyard hotels can take sizable groups, but most estates are boutique. Over about 100 people, plan on two properties or a larger hotel near Évora.
When is harvest season?
Usually September into early October, depending on the year and the estate.
